What regions are in Elementix and how they differ from MSAs.
Regions offer a convenient way to look at a market that crosses state lines without manually selecting multiple states and counties. Markets like Philadelphia, New York, and Boston naturally span several states — selecting a single region captures the full economic area in one click.
How Regions Are Defined
Regions in Elementix are based on BEA Economic Areas rather than the more common Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). MSAs only cover metropolitan areas, leaving gaps in rural parts of the country. BEA Economic Areas cover the entire United States without gaps — every county belongs to exactly one economic area.
